Student opportunities and activities
At Turramurra Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs include:
- school sport, athletics and inter-school competitions
- creative and performing arts groups and showcases
- activities that support high potential and gifted learners, including enrichment classes
- cultural activities
- excursions and incursions
- public speaking and debating
- lunchtime and interest-based clubs
- student leadership opportunities.

Our extra-curricular highlights
Band
There are three main Concert Bands at TPS:
- Junior Concert Band
- Intermediate Concert Band
- Performance Band
There is also a Jazz Band, which consists of students from Years 5 to 6
Dance
We run three gifted and talented dance groups:
- Senior Dance (Years 5 & 6)
- Intermediate Dance (Years 3 & 4)
- Junior Dance (Year 2)
The Senior & Intermediate dance groups perform at the Sydney North Dance Festival held at Glen Street Theatre during Term 2.
Enrichment
We run Enrichment programs for students in English and Mathematics, led by Mrs Rowe. We run an English Enrichment group and a Writing Enrichment group. We run Maths Olympiad for Year 5-6, Maths Games for Year 3-4 and Maths Explorer for Year 2 students. Students are challenged to develop their creativity in solving maths problems.
Choir
We have junior and senior choirs. These groups learn a repertoire of songs and perform at school events and externally, including at Schools Spectacular.
Sports Aerobics
Selected Years 5 and 6 students compete in highly energetic and entertaining sports aerobics routines. Recently, these talented performers took part in the Australian National Sports Aerobics competition and one team came first and the other third out of all groups across Australia
Hornsby Zone School Sport
Students in Years 3-6 can try out for a multitude of teams to play in an inter-school sports competition on Fridays. The sports are:
- Softball (Years 5 and 6) Tee-ball (Years 3 and 4)
- League Tag
- Cricket
- Football (soccer)
- AFL
- Netball
School Carnivals
The school holds three carnivals each year, which are:
- swimming
- athletics
- cross country
Students learn athletic event skills during sport lessons. Students who achieve certain times/distances compete in higher level carnivals against students from other schools (zone, area state and nationals).
Robotics
Robotics lessons with upper primary students run outside of school hours. These students work collaboratively to learn about robotics and experiments with builds
Debating
Our debating team is made up of Years 5 and 6 students who excel at public speaking. The team competes in the Ryde District Debating Competition.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Beyond excursions, our Stage 3 students attend camp each year, alternating between Canberra and the Great Aussie Bush Camp
