Our debating team is made up of 6 students who excel at public speaking, selected from Years 5 and 6. The team competes in the Ryde District Debating Competition, which is comprised of five debates against local schools over Terms 2 and 3, with a chance to proceed to a semi-final and finals round. This year, our team will also compete in the Friendly Schools Competition throughout Terms 3 and 4.
Preparing for a debate consists of extensive research, collaborative planning and engagement in public speaking exercises which are completed during weekly training sessions and collaboration online during students' own time. It requires substantial commitment and provides a chance for students to consider multiple perspectives on challenging, real-life topics. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to improve their knowledge of complex issues such as economics, culture and current affairs, while honing their public speaking skills.
Debating training takes place on Monday morning at 8am.
